Easily...

the most epic chorus the HMAP has ever seen.
EVAR.
Awesome shit man. Keep up this work, and I'll continue to hang my head in shame of my meager offerings.

HappyHomicide responds:

Hahahaha! Cheers broski!

Guitar tone = needs work.

Guitars sound really mid-heavy, and aren't distorted enough, in my opinion.
Vocals are excellent, though. Props.

ElfofChaos responds:

Why thank ya TN I'll keep the guitar thing in mind.

Meh.

Still needs work, in my opinion.
It sounds like there are quite a few mistakes in your playing; you don't have to record the whole thing in one take, you know. You can go back and fix certain parts without completely rerecording everything.
There's some clipping happening every now and then. Clipping = very bad.
Also, the end cuts off pretty abruptly. A fadeout will suffice, if you can't come up with a good outro.
Really, this shouldn't be a finished product; it needs quite a bit more work.
But the potential is definitely there; I will say that. THe melodies are cool, the guitar parts are cool... just needs polishing.

Pure-Metal-UTA responds:

I will definately go with what you said.
The final version will be submitted before the finals I guess.
When it comes to recording everything in one take, I find it a bitch to re-record certain parts then having to delete the take... If there's an easier way you gotta tell me how.
You'll also have to tell me how to normalize so I can get rid of the clipping, I still haven't found that normalize button on Reaper.
And I will definately fade out the last part.
You're definately right that this shouldn't be final, but you have to admit it's better than the last version.
But I'm glad you liked the song overall.
Thanks for the review, it was definately useful!

Recording quality...

is very rough. Distortion sounds like a DS-1 straight into your computer. BAD.
I just submitted a clip showing the tones you can get by plugging your guitar directly into your computer or interface, and using VST distortions and cabinet impulses. You can listen to it here: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste n/224882 .
Visit the site I mention in the Author's Comments; there's a lot of awesome information there, and I'm sure you will learn a lot.
Also, you didn't play the verse riff quite right. =p
Keep working on improving your sound, man. You've got good chops, you just gotta get it sounding good on the recording.

Xth responds:

Well, I used guitar rig 3 through garageband for this one. Gb sucks big time but it's easy to record stuff with it. I'm still new to guitar rig3 so I'm trying to figure it out. And yah I know I don't have the verse right. I learned that song by ear and at the recording that part it's pretty crazy. I think I got it now and I'm gonna finish the cover.

Thanx for your review and score!

Needs some more mixing.

Did I mix this, or did you play with it some?
If I did it, I need a swift kick in the arse.
Mainly because the guitars are quite a bit too loud. They sound good, but they're just too damned loud; they drown out the drums a bit.
Or, conversely, maybe the drums need to come up. Yeah, that's it. XD
Anyway, don't know when I can write some lyrics for this, so if you happen to get a flash of inspiration, do it. Then I can do the easy part. XD

Pure-Metal-UTA responds:

I will definately fix this then!
Lyrics-wise, I already have some up on DB, it's just a matter of revising...
I will fix it, then put it back on again.
Thanks!

Needs some mixing, sounds like.

Who played the drums?
Also, how did you record them?
Kick's a little quiet, snare is kinda dull (not enough highs/wire sound) and a bit loud.
Not bad, but not perfect either.
Guitar tone is kinda dull, which is unlike you. Usually your guitars are really (way) bright. Did you discover cabinet impulses, or something?
Either way, not too shabby for all live instruments. Kudos.

HappyHomicide responds:

Yeah, I went for a different tone this time, I did actually discover cab impulses but in this case it's not related. The kick definitely is a bit quiet, and the snare needs some wire but I didnt have a bottom mic, I used 2 vocal mics (big condensers) for overheads, my guitar cab mic for bass drum, and some Mxl microphone pretending to be an sm57 for snare, only 4 simultaneous with my inderface which is a downer. thanks for the input dude!

Sounds pretty good...

for live drums. =p
How was the beer?
Also, just thought I'd tell you that I'm working on a drum track for that song you posted a few days ago... I think it's almost done, too. It's pretty cool.
I was going to submit it and be like 'surprise!', but then I thought about it, and that's pretty ghey, haha.
If you want, I can send you the drum track by itself, and you can redo the distorted guitars and it would probably sound pretty awesome.
Just shoot me a PM or IM me on AIM if you want some help with the recording stuff.

MindOverMatt responds:

Holy shit dude, you ARE THE MAN! Yeah, I like the idea of redoing those guitars. By the way, the beer, as cheap as it was, was excellent! Thanks for checking this stuff out and being a part of it! MEEEETTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTAAAAAAAAAALLLL LL!!!!!!
Matt

Hey man, glad you're back!

About time you showed your ugly face on here again! Lawl, j/k. But seriously, it's been too long.
This is a pretty cool tune; kinda chill, not all balls-out heavy like too many songs are now.
A suggestion regarding guitar tone - DON'T run a distortion pedal straight into a DAW and expect it to sound even decent. The only way you can get away with doing that is to run the distorted input through a cabinet impulse.
I don't know how well CoolEdit runs VST's, but if you can get it to, I'd recommend you download 'Voxengo Boogex Guitar Amp VST'. Just Google it, I can't link it here. It's got some internal impulses that actually sound pretty decent, and you don't have to download anything else.
If CoolEdit doesn't like VST's, download Reaper (again, Google). It's an excellent, very powerful DAW that is free until you feel like paying for it. I use it for everything I do, and it's never let me down.
If you need help getting any of that crap running, just shoot me a PM or IM me (twilightnecrosis). I'd be glad to help a fellow metalhead out.

MindOverMatt responds:

Hell yeah bro, thanks a lot for the help! I'll check that stuff out and hopefully come back with a slightly better product. Good to hear from ya again you Heavy Metal Bad Ass! We'll be in touch dude, thanks!
Matt

Dude...

This is pretty much one huge, awesome breakdown.
Fuck.
I hate you so much, you have no idea.
How am I going to write LYRICS for this?!?
FUCK.
Goddammit, this is SO AWESOME.
My neck hurts now.
Awesome.

HappyHomicide responds:

Hahaha thanks dude! Please if you have time, I'd LOVE vocals in this, I cant write lyrics to save my life!

You want to know what I think?

I think you need to FINISH THIS FUCKING COVER.
Seriously.
So I can then embarass myself by attempting to sound like Jaymz Hetfield, haha.
Good work on this, man. Can't wait for the finished one.
Metal! \m/

I'm a dude. I play guitar. I am metal to the core. Don't try to over-metal me. You will be annihilated.
