Crank up that synth-guitar!

For real, crank that thing up. Sure, it doesn't sound perfect, but hell, it's awesome anyway.
What would be really cool, is if you sent me (or somebody interested) the mp3 of the drums and bass together (no guitars) and another mp3 of just the guitars, so I (or somebody interested) could lay a few real guitar tracks down over your drums.
Hell, I could do the vocals too, if you're interested.
If not, that's cool. Just PM me, or reply to this review.
This was very well-done, by the way. Everything flowed nicely.
Great work!

Lazy-Dan35 responds:

Thanks, I'll PM you later, and send you the .mp3

Needs some things, but good start.

First of all, METRONOME. If you don't record with one, you're a loser and you need to cut your dick off.
Just kidding. Seriously though, use a metronome. It will keep your recordings in nice, tight time, so that somebody can go back later and put drums in.
Also, you need to double track the whole song, not just the parts with two guitars.
One panned to one side, one panned to the other.
Actually, now that I think of it, Dragonforce probably does 4 distinct guitar parts in each song (a rhythm track panned to each side, and a lead/fill track on each side). So, you might consider doing that.
Your guitar tone actually sounds pretty decent. You could definitely use a noise suppressor, though. It also sounds like it's clipping a little, fix that.
If you can get this song recorded decently, in time with a metronome, I could do the drums and vocals.
If not, that's cool too. =
Good work so far; now, just iron out the kinks and you'll be golden.

lhavf responds:

I don't have a metronome. That sux. Where can I get those clicker things.

And by the way, whats the real BPM of the song.
Drums and vocals would help. But you know, if you know the entire song for drums, IF YOU WANT you can send me it, and it would be easier to play using that.

Nicely done, amigo.

Sounds like you're enjoying REAPER, lawl.
Bass is sitting a little high in the mix for me personally, but it sounds good. Could probably use a bit of EQing, to get it to sit a little better, but that's about it.
Also sounds like you're doing some different things with your guitar tone too... turning down the gain and treble a bit, maybe? Can't quite put a finger on it, but that's what it seems like.
Anyway, awesome sounds coming from you. Have you figured out how to isolate the mics in EZDrummer yet? If not, and you want to know, I'll teach you; it's not hard, and it's very handy to be able to EQ/effect the different parts individually.
Enjoyed this preview of things to come; looking forward to hearing the epic shit you're inevitably going to produce.
Metal! \m/

deathkllr84 responds:

Lol, I actually used Audacity for this one. I am more familiar with it, and I didn't need anything fancy so it worked. Yeah I wanted the bass high in the mix to really 'show it off'. But in the future it'll probably be a little quieter. With my guitar, I turned down the highs in the intro then let it kick back in.

No I haven't figured out how to isolate them, and you will show me =) Thanks bro, I always appreciate your reviews \m/

Wow... needs a lot of work.

It sounds like you're trying to growl/scream very quietly... which is kind of self-defeating.
Unless you have to, you should be letting loose with everything you have.
Seriously, back off the mic about a foot and just yell, push from your diaphragm and go all out.
When your throat starts hurting, stop for a while and drink some cool water.
Then when it feels okay again, go back to it. Don't overwork yourself starting out, though - you'll fuck your voice up bad.
Keep working on it, you'll get there eventually.
I like your lyrics... do you mind if I do this song with your lyrics?

7isgod responds:

Hey man, thanks for you input, I will defiantly try it out.

And yes, you can use the lyrics and (sing) with this track too.

Goto deathkllr84's Await The Retribution.

I would love to hear what you have got. :D

Hey, I remember that riff! <3

Lawl, Vent FTW.
So you finally dl'ed Reaper, huh?
The EQ VST is awesome, make good use of it.
Specifically, I think your guitars would sound a little better if you high-shelved them around 8-10kHz. That would get some of that high-frequency buzz out; that shit that doesn't have any note in it, it's just noise.
Ask me about it if you need any help... Reaper is my *bitch*.
Also, the little piano thing around 3:13 in the right channel is a little too loud, IMO. Turn it down just a bit. And it's also too loud at the end.
Other than those little minor quibbles... AWESOME.
I love the fuck out of this song, it NEEDS vocals. Badly.
Write me some lyrics, home-skillet! Lawl.

deathkllr84 responds:

Lol I'm surprised you remember that riff xD Yeah Reaper is pretty cool, you'll have to give me some pointers. The piano was loud, oh well...lol.

thanks man, I'll get started on lyrics \m/

Awesome.

That's some good stuff.
I actually submitted a blues song not too long ago, check it out if you like.
You get 5/9. Keep up the awesome work.

wyldfyre1 responds:

thank you kind sir! let me just check that out

Not too bad.

Guitar tone could use some work - it's really trebly, and got a bit too much distortion. Try EQ'ing your guitar parts a little - maybe roll off the highs at about 8k Hz to get rid of some of that nasty distortion buzz.
Also, it sounds like you play a bit ahead of/behind the beat in some places.
The riffs and song structure are awesome, though. Lots of potential there.
Just work on the recording quality itself, and you'll be golden.
I have a Spider 3, the 30-watter. Which Line 6 did you get?

METALkiDofEArTH08 responds:

15-watter. yeah i have lots of work to do to make recording perfect. but yeah. thanks.

One problem...

Where's the bassline?
I like my sub... I like it more when it's being used, though.
You still get a ten for sheer awesome, though.
Keep it up.

mseemercury responds:

yo i got a caddy with two 12's and that shit bumbs

Awesome.

Gore's right, definitely an old-school sound.
High-hat's way loud, but that's forgivable.
Your vocals have improved a huge amount, I'm really impressed by them.
Overall, I like it; it's pretty rad.

Creeping-Dan responds:

Ill have round off the high frequencies for the others thenfor the hi hats.

Cheers mate!

I'm going to have to agree with Schlief.

FL Slayer is one of those things that you really want to avoid using, if possible.
I mean, it's okay for plotting out your riffs and progressions, but it's very difficult to get to sound good.
Now, that said, there are people here on NG who are very good at making FLSlayer sound less... well, Slayer-like. One of them is jrayteam6 (sp?). If you're bound and determined to use electronic guitars, he's the guy to ask about how to get them to sound good.
If you're willing to use a real guitar, then you really should. Nothing sounds more like a guitar than a guitar. However, recording guitar is a difficult task in itself, but the payoff, to me, is worth it.
And drums... well, drums are a pain, if you want my opinion. However, programming them does get easier over time.
If you want a good starter drum program, I'd suggest Acoustica Beatcraft.
Then, when you get comfortable with Beatcraft, you can move up to EZDrummer (which I use) or something else, like Addictive Drums (which I, personally, have never used, but I've heard it's good).

So yeah. Long monologue aside, you've got potential. You sound like you know how to write a riff, a progression, etc. And I wouldn't have written all this if I didn't believe that you'll make a good contributer to the AP someday.
What you should really do now is focus on trying to get a good guitar sound, and learn to program good drums.
Figure those two things out, and you'll be golden.
And if there's anything you need help with, don't be afraid to go into the Audio Forum and ask for help. Most of the guys in there are great dudes who will help you out, or at least point you in the right direction.
So yeah, I look forward to hearing your future work.
Keep it metal.
TN

Lard-lad responds:

Wow, thanks for the advice mate =]

Yeah, i'll give recording my guitar a go, just last time i tried it kinda failed pretty miserably.

I'm honoured you think i have potential, I'll keep at it =p

I'm a dude. I play guitar. I am metal to the core. Don't try to over-metal me. You will be annihilated.
